saturday afternoon saw the blacks headed to tampines stadium for the game against fc squirrels. havin' suffered our first league defeat of the season in our last match (against singapore schools), the fellas were lookin' to bounce back in as convincin' a manner as possible. plus, since the race for promotion might eventually come down to goal difference, we wanted to win big, to send a message to the pretenders that the chase for 2nd place and the 2nd promotion spot is on.

and, on a day of firsts, we had our largest turnout of players ever. in goal, both wayne and fabius were available. in defence, i partnered ruy (with azlan rotatin' with ruy), and gopi teamed up with magnus. ishak was back to bolster the midfield along with venu. and in attack, arland partnered alvin, kenneth was with junming, and mingcong teamed up with eddie. 15 players in all. in our usual 2-1-2 formation, that translated to 2 sets of defenders, 2 sets of midfielders, and 3 sets of forwards. ample depth for an all-out attackin' display.

the supporters had turned out in full force as well, eagerly anticipatin' a floorball show from the blacks
. all these meant it wasn't a good day to be an fc squirrels player.

our best result in the club's history, and the biggest win by any team in the entire league. what more could i say? a furiously blisterin' display of attackin' floorball saw us absolutely obliterate the opposition. in all honesty, i could see it in the fellas' eyes before the game that they wanted to battle all out till the very end to put the ghosts of our previous match to rest. and what a way to bounce back!

from the defence's almost flawless performance, and venu and ishak's tireless gutsy displays in the heart of the midfield, to arland's 7-goal feat and eddie's sheer will that earned him a goal
, every player fought in true spartan style to capture the hearts and respect of even neutral spectators, who were applaudin' our "total floorball". some of our buildup in attack left even me on the court in absolute awe, and had me wonderin', "why the hell can't we play like this every single week?"

and on a personal note, i bagged my first 2 goals of the season, both from a distance, which was a pleasant icing on things. and all u blacks fellas should know by now that i always dedicate 'em to a special someone.

this brilliant performance (which i pray that we repeat over our final 2 games), coupled with tek's 2-3 loss to nus saints means this: win the remainin' 2 matches (includin' the final day cruncher with tek), and we could be in division 1 for the first time in the club's history.

and i've got a good feelin' about this. we can win those matches,
    we must.

    and we shall.
